what is work

work_formula work Definition 

       we can says work is the product of magnitude of  displacement and component of force in the direction of displacement. 
Explanation
      Let us consider an object which is being pulled by content  force F at angle theta to the direction of motion.The force F moves the object from position A to B through displacement D as shown in figure.

Now by definition work is given by.

                                                                         = Fd  cos 0
where,
               F Cos 0 is component of force in the direction of displacement.

example of work

        work Done on the wall:
            when a man pushes a wall it does not move. It means displacement of the wall is zero.
                                               W = Fd Cos 0 = Fd cos (90) = o

no work

Characteristics of work done

(1)   Work is scalar quantity.
(2)   If 0 (theta) < 90 work done is + ive.
(3)   If 0 (theta) = 90 no work is done.
(4)   If 0 (theta) > 90 work done is - ive..
